Andrew Goodwin of Ernst and Young stated: “The small increase in consumer credit is likely to be connected to consumers bringing forward purchases to avoid the recent VAT increase (that became effective at the very start of 2010, bringing the rate from 15% up to 17.5%) and relapse is likely to occur next month.”
